2020 NFL Draft: Thanksgiving Day first-round 2020 NFL mock draft
15. Cleveland Browns: Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama
The preseason hype behind the Cleveland Browns has proven to be a little overblown, as they are still a ways away from being a contender and need to continue to accumulate talent on both sides of the football.
The offensive line is a real issue for Cleveland but I don’t love who is left on the board for them. So instead, the focus shifts to the defense, as they take Xavier McKinney out of Alabama with the fifteenth pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.
McKinney is not receiving the draft hype he should be getting at the moment but I believe it will come in due time. He has been the biggest playmaker on the Crimson Tide defense this season, as he is always around the football and can line up all over the place. His versatility is his greatest attribute but he’s also proven to be a born leader and has no real glaring weakness in his game.
He seems just as comfortable dropping back into center field to play the pass as he is running downhill and getting after a ball carrier. These traits are evident when you watch him play but his numbers also point to his range and dawg mentality as well.
In the last two seasons, McKinney has come down with 5 interceptions and has 5 sacks to his credit, as he has proven to be a playmaker, no matter what his role is.
I like the fit here and if the top tackles are gone, McKinney would be another quality addition to a talented young defense.
