2020 NFL Draft: Thanksgiving Day first-round 2020 NFL mock draft
11. Los Angeles Chargers: Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
It is finally time for the Chargers to move on from the best quarterback in franchise history and start fresh while they still have young talent on both sides of the ball.
Philip Rivers has looked bad in recent weeks and even if he finishes the season off strong, his contract is up at seasons end and it would make little sense to bring him back on anything more than a 1-year deal.
The Chargers going quarterback with their first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft shouldn’t be a surprise to anybody and that’s exactly what happens in this mock as they take Justin Herbert with the eleventh overall pick.
Herbert could have come out in the 2019 draft and been a first-round pick but decided to stay another year to work on his game and I think we’ve seen some big improvements because of that decision.
He’s had some huge outings this season, racking up a 30 to 5 touchdown to interception ratio and bumping his completion percentage up 10% from a year ago.
There isn’t much not to like about Herbert as a pro prospect, as he has the build, athleticism, arm talent and smarts that have been the mold of the NFL QB for so long and would be a great get for the Chargers at eleven.
