2020 NFL Draft: Justin Herbert goes No. 1 in first-round NFL mock draft
By John Newman
Which Offensive tackle the Dolphins decide to pick up in the 2020 NFL draft will depend a lot on how much they value the position and how good they think their potential prospect is. I could easily see the Dolphins going for a tackle earlier in the draft, potentially with their second 1st rounder. There is also a possibility that they would package this pick and a later round pick to move up for the one they want to most.
However, if they do decide to wait till their last 1st round pick they could do very well with Texas Longhorns Offensive Tackle Samuel Cosmi. At 6-foot-6, 295 pounds, Cosmi is the ideal size for an NFL tackle position.
Despite being an anchor for the Texas offensive line, Cosmi is surprisingly fast and nimble when in the open field. Besides being a strong defender for Miami’s new quarterback, he could also go on the offensive, running to meet approaching linebackers or defensive ends rushing forward.
He is athletic, strong and a safe bet to be taken in the first round. They will need to find their replacement left tackle after they traded away Laremy Tunsil this prior to this season to the Texans.
Cosmi is not a finished product. He will need time to improve his technique as he appears to get easily distracted by the hands of defenders when they make contact with him. He will need to clean this up if he wants to avoid being manhandled with defensive ends at the professional level.
But for a player with his size and athleticism, there is no telling how good of a player he could be at left tackle. All the tools are there, and even if his form is a little lacking, no one with that much skill and raw talent will ever become beyond hope.
