Scouting Report. Cornerback. Trevon Diggs. 20. 52. Pick Analysis. Alabama. player

The Jaguars find their replacement of recently departed Jalen Ramsey by selecting Trevon Diggs with the 20th pick in the 2020 NFL draft. Originally I had Bryce Hall from Virginia slotted to be selected here, but with the ankle injury in October to Hall, Diggs slides to the Jaguars draft board.

Diggs will have the inside track when maneuvering the combine, as he is his brother is Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs. He should be properly prepared for the combine minutiae to avoid any of the pitfalls that could damage his draft value.

With Diggs, the Jaguars get a cornerback to replace Ramsey with a ton of potential. This is his first year of significant usage in the Alabama defense, which might be a bit of a knock against the Crimson Tide senior. But what he has put on tape this year has been a testament to how talented the young cornerback is.

According to ESPN, this year Diggs has three interceptions, 36 tackles, six pass deflections and one touchdown after an interception. The 6-foot-2 cornerback has the skills and ability to match up with most wide receivers in the NFL and should be a nice addition to the Jaguars secondary. In the 2020 NFL draft, Diggs might be the best cornerback available, if he can be put in a system that works with him.

Diggs will have to improve at the next level if he hopes to stay at the top of his game though. Filling the shows Ramsey left won’t be easy. His career will be compared to Ramseys as long as his numbers are below Ramseys. That’s not going to be an easy thing to do, and hopefully, he will have some help along the way. Jacksonville’s defensive coordinator, Todd Wash comes from the Pete Carroll coaching tree, having been a defensive line coach in Seattle.

Wash runs a bit of cover 3 style defense in Jacksonville, which has proven over the years to bring out the serviceable skills of cornerbacks far less talented than Ramsey. If Diggs can continue to build on his production while in Tuscaloosa, he should have a spot on the Jaguars roster for years to come.
