Jacob Eason, Washington

Eason is one of the forgotten talents of the 2020 NFL Draft class. In a sometimes forgotten program at Washington, Eason has shown off an NFL-ready mental capacity as well as physical gifts.

At 6’6″, 227 pounds, Eason is one of the big-bodied pocket passers of the class alongside Justin Herbert. His sense for the pocket is already NFL quality and Eason has shown his preference to move through the pocket rather than flee the scene. This will prove helpful under the pressure of NFL defenses at the next level.

The glaring concern of Eason’s game is his accuracy and ball placement, even on short check downs. Eason has struggled to put his receivers in position to make plays downfield and has caused a handful of bad drops on short catch and runs because of poor placement. This kind of accuracy issue is certainly due to mechanics and will need to be addressed before taking snaps under center on the big stage.

Eason has all of the physical tools and mental capacity to make a difference on Sunday’s, but basic mechanical concerns will need to be fixed before he can translate his skill set onto the field. A year behind a veteran quarterback and a quality coaching staff will ensure proper development, and Eason could very well be the steal of the 2020 draft.

Team fit: Chicago Bears

Mitchell Trubisky has been a disappointment in Chicago. He plays the game with a sense of caution and does not run Matt Nagy’s offense to its full capabilities. Eason has the arm, body, and mind to make this system work. Eason will be given time to work on his throwing mechanics and accuracy, while (most likely) Chase Daniel continues to be a serviceable piece on the Bears roster.

If Chicago can find a buyer for Trubisky, now is the time, because the future needs to become more apparent to this Chicago front office.
