Jacksonville Jaguars 2020 NFL Draft: Complete 7-round mock draft
This pick might be a bit surprising since I have the Jacksonville Jaguars taking Florida’s Zuniga three rounds earlier. However, this pick, like the Kraemer selection, is more about building depth for your team. More importantly, the depth that you do end up building needs to quality to sustain success.
The backup defensives the Jacksonville Jaguars currently have are Duwanne Smoot and Lerentee McCray. While both have done alright in their respective roles, the situational pass-rush group could use a boost. While Zack Baun from Wisconsin may be slightly undersized, he offers a lot of juice as a pass rusher.
Bursting onto the scene this year with 7.5 sacks through nine games, Baun has shown flashes of greatness. Baun plays with his hair on fire every play, using his strong hands to swat away blockers and then dipping underneath for sacks. If put in the right situation, he could find success at the next level.
Like with the edge group, the Jacksonville Jaguars could use more depth at the defensive tackle position. Akeem Spence is a free agent after the 2019 season and veteran Marcell Dareus could be cut for cap reasons. All that leaves is Abry Jones, Taven Bryan, and Dontavious Russell, not the most inspiring group at face value.
While Jordan Scott is not Derrick Brown or Javon Kinlaw, as a pure run stopper, Scott is an intriguing late-round player. He’s a big-bodied defensive tackle with a build similar to that of Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Michael Pierce ( 6-1 336lbs/ 6-0 340).
Although Scott may not offer much as a pass rusher, though he can generate some in spurts, he’s still a good day-three player that can solid depth to this defensive line.
While the jury is still out on rookie third-round pick Josh Oliver, the Jacksonville Jaguars still could address the tight end position in 2020. As I mentioned earlier, Koyack is a free agent next year as well as Seth Devalve, leaving O’Shaunessey, Oliver, and Swaim as their tight end group.
Jacob Breeland could, if taken here, come in and compete for a role in the Jaguars offense. While I’m not quite sure if he will beat out anyone for a starting gig, Breeland would still be a great option to have for your offense.
What I like about Breeland is his aggressive catching ability, as he shows pretty good concentration when doing so. He’s also a fairly decent blocker despite having more of a leaner build. Overall, Breeland is a great late-round option for the Jacksonville Jaguars who has the potential to be a key player in their offense.
