After releasing Tashaun Gipson this offseason to free up cap space, the Jacksonville Jaguars created a hole at free safety. To make matters worse, they opted to not address the position during the 2019 NFL Draft. Instead, they have been relying on seven-year veteran Cody Davis as a stop-gap player at the position.

While Davis has been fine in the starting role, for my money it is a downgrade over Gipson, and now it is a bigger position of need. Unfortunately for the Jacksonville Jaguars, the safety class for 2020 isn’t particularly deep, however, there are still some more than solid prospects to be found. Take the Golden Bears’ Ashtyn Davis as an example.

The redshirt senior out of Cal is one of my favorite mid-round prospects, and it’s easy to see why he is. Davis plays with instinct and does a good job of tracking the ball. While his INT numbers are down this year (1), his four interceptions in 2018 show that he has the potential to be a ball hawk.

For my money, Davis is an inexpensive yet solid option at safety and would make an interesting duo if paired with Ronnie Harrison.
