Jacksonville Jaguars 2020 NFL Draft: Complete 7-round mock draft
When the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted Ngakoue in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, I’m not quite sure if they knew the type of player they got. Through four seasons in the NFL, Ngakoue has been one of the top, young edge rushers in the league. And despite having a bit of a down year in 2019, Ngakoue still gets constant pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
However, the 24-year-old is due to hit free agency this offseason. And while Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan says he wants Ngakoue to stay, the emergence of Allen and his slight drop off in stats has me believing otherwise.
Should they part ways, the question now becomes who do you replace Ngakoue with? The answer, for now, is to go in-state and select Jabari Zuniga, a redshirt senior from the University of Florida. Zuniga is a long, lean pass rusher, who despite some injury concerns is still an intriguing prospect.
What I like about Zuniga, aside from his frame are his functional play strength and first quickness. Often, I see him blending those two traits to be a force off of the edge, then dipping underneath opposing tackles. His amazing athleticism allows him to move fluidly across the line of scrimmage and make plays. While I don’t think he’ll be quite the sack artist that Ngakoue is, what he offers against the run will be a nice complement to Allen.
