Colin Kaepernick: Three possible landing spots after Saturday’s workout
By Ian Higgins
Colin Kaepernick has been one of the hottest topics in recent years and continues the conversation with his workout on Saturday. Will he find a home?
Even after significant time out of the NFL, Colin Kaepernick continues to make headlines. On Saturday, Kaepernick will have an NFL workout to show teams that he is ready to make his return. At 32 years of age, Kaepernick is past his prime, but could still provide value to several NFL teams.
I have chosen three of the most interesting fits that Kaepernick could reasonably go to based upon current quarterback situations and surrounding talent. NFL front offices will not be looking at Colin Kaepernick as a long-term option, but as a veteran backup or as a stop-gap while younger talent is acquired and/or developed.
Known for his big arm and speed, Kaepernick is the type of quarterback to redefine an offense to his skillset and create explosive production. Lamar Jackson has proven that running quarterbacks can be more than capable of producing success, and Kaepernick did the same years ago in San Francisco.
Kaepernick was a more than capable quarterback before leaving the NFL, and Saturday’s workout will tell a lot about his current playing condition and how he has taken care of himself during his hiatus. Can Colin Kaepernick redefine an NFL offense in his image to produce postseason success? Which teams are most likely to give him another shot to prove himself?
Denver Broncos
With the continual failure of Joe Flacco in Denver, and rookie Drew Lock needing more time to develop to compete at the NFL level, Denver could use a major name that can redefine and revive their offense. Some would point to Cam Newton (including myself), but Kaepernick could be an alternate solution with a much lower price tag.

A one-year rental on the 32-year-old quarterback would be the perfect audition on the NFL stage to revive his career, surrounded by an impressive amount of talent for a 3-6 team. The Broncos offense possesses a stacked running back stable of Philip Lindsay and Royce Freeman, as well as emerging passing targets Courtland Sutton and Noah Fant.
Denver’s previously famed defense still holds pieces from their previous super bowl run in Von Miller and Chris Harris, and have continued to as new talent with the likes of Bradley Chubb and Justin Simmons. Vic Fangio has also done a quality job of coaching up his young talent and fitting his pieces well into the defensive scheme.
Denver needs an offensive revival. A dynamic power-running game complemented by play-action is the perfect answer with the current roster at their disposal. Baltimore has redefined how to run the ball at the NFL level, and if Kaepernick is up to the task, he could perform well in a similar system.
