Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Defensive End. Ohio State. 2. Chase Young. player. 58

Simply put, Chase Young has been the best and most dominant player in college football this season. If it wasn’t for the quarterback position, Young would be the clear-cut favorite the be the first selection of the 2020 NFL Draft. But with teams atop the first round needing to find their franchise quarterbacks, the Redskins get a bit of a steal, even at two, in Young, who will be wreaking havoc on those quarterbacks for years to come.

While I think that Young fits best as a 4-3 defensive end and the Redskins run a 3-4, Young is a physical freak and can perform in any scheme you throw him in to. And who knows what the Washington coaching staff, and therefore defensive scheme, will look like after the 2019 season. Jay Gruden has already been let go, and if the Skins bring in a coach that runs a 4-3 defense, this will be an absolute no-brainer for me.

After eight games at Ohio State this season, Young leads the nation with 13.5 sacks. Add in five forced fumbles and 29 tackles and you have one of the most dynamic and ferocious edge presences in recent history. Young had four sacks against Wisconsin, proving he can produce against any level of competition.

Young truly has the potential to be the next top NFL defender. He really could come in and quickly be in the same breath as guys like Myles Garrett, Khalil Mack, Von Miller and J.J. Watt as an edge rusher. Suspension or not, Young is the best defensive player in the 2020 NFL Draft.

A 4-3 defensive front of Young, Jonathan Allen, Da’Ron Payne and Montez Sweat would be a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks for years to come. The Skins will still have a long way to go to be a competitive team in the NFC.

For one, quarterback Dwayne Haskins must show a great deal of improvement if they want to even have a chance at a winning record, but adding his Ohio State teammate to the other side of the ball could give Haskins shorter fields and more chances to succeed as Washington continues to rebuild.
