2020 NFL Draft: First round mock draft featuring Joe Burrow at No. 1
After adding their future franchise quarterback and a guy to protect him already in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, it’s time for Miami to add some talent and potential to the other side of the ball. Julian Okwara out of Notre Dame has plenty of both.
Okwara has a frame that NFL people love to see in pass rushers. Tall and lean with great bend and a lightning-quick first step, Okwara has all the physical traits to get to the quarterback. While he could certainly add more play strength to his slight frame, especially if he is expected to play as a 4-3 defensive end, Okwara can, at the very least, rush the passer at an extremely high level.
I like his potential as a 3-4 outside linebacker, so I think he would fit very well in Brian Flores‘ Patriots-like defense that he will try to create in Miami. Okwara has the potential to fill the role of Trey Flowers from Flores’ time in New England or Kyle Van Noy this year for Belichick’s Pats.
Okwara has been pretty productive throughout his Notre Dame career and has the potential to develop his game into one of the best skillsets in the NFL. He is already very adept at setting up tackles with moves and countermoves, not just relying on his athletic ability like many young, gifted pass rushers.
Arguably the three most important positions in today’s NFL are quarterback, a left tackle to protect the quarterback and a guy that can attack the other team’s quarterback. The Dolphins can use their three first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft to address each of those needs, loading their roster with talent and potential for a bright future in the Sunshine State.
