A.J. Epenesa. 45. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Defensive End. Iowa. 9. player

Another physical freak, 6-foot-6 and 280-pound Iowa defensive end A.J. Epenesa would be an intimidating matchup for pretty much anyone. Epenesa has the build and raw ability to be right there with Chase Young in terms of edge rushers from the 2020 NFL Draft and just needs to grow and develop.

What better spot for a young pass rusher to develop than Denver? A team that has Von Miller and Bradley Chubb on the edges, as well as Derek Wolfe inside, and a defensive guru in head coach Vic Fangio, the Broncos could be the perfect place for Epenesa to land.

While Young has shown incredible production at Ohio State this season, Epenesa has not been able to put up similar numbers with just 4.5 sacks in nine games. So it makes sense that Young goes to a team that needs that production right away while Epenesa goes to a place where he can learn and grow as a rusher, learning from some of the best, and contribute in spots where they ask him to.

Alongside Miller, Chubb, and Wolfe, teams would not be able to key on Epenesa like they are this season. Adding a talent like him to such a potent front would make the Broncos defense a nightmare for opposing offenses. Just the way Fangio wants it.

It may seem silly to some to add another rusher to such a talented group when the team has some other needs that could be addressed at this point. However, the primary need for this team is an offensive tackle, and there is not a guy left on the board worthy of a pick at this point. They would love to get Thomas or Wirfs, but with those guys gone, they go with the player left that has arguably the highest ceiling.

You can never have too many pass rushers, especially in a 3-4 defense that is seeing Von Miller drop back in coverage quite a bit this year. If Epenesa develops into what he can be, the Broncos front will be wreaking havoc for years to come.
