2020 NFL Draft: Top 10 most athletic prospects by position
By Ian Higgins
Edge: Chase Young, Ohio State
A big surprise on the edge, Chase Young from Ohio St. Young possesses many of the traits teams are looking for in a franchise pass-rusher: size, explosiveness, and hand usage among others. To match the measurables, Young has also posted impressive production in 2019 as well as 2018 during the absence of Nick Bosa.
The only concern I have seen in Young is his inability to get around the corner with hip-bend. Young has shown a tendency to get washed out to the outside by tackles who can keep up, and looks sluggish once he is outside.
Young has shown his best production when searching for inside leverage or when rushing to the A & B gaps. His combination of explosiveness and size inside is a mismatch for interior lineman and makes him a serious problem when he is moved around a defensive front.
I would personally like to see Young used similarly to how Jadeveon Clowney was used in Houston, moved around the defensive front to create a variety of matchups and pass-rushing situations.
This variety will prove well for Young so he can not only develop an arsenal of pass-rushing strategies and techniques but also give his new team a weapon to be used on whichever piece of the opposing offensive line is considered to be the weakest.
