2020 NFL Draft: Top 10 most athletic prospects by position
By Ian Higgins
Offensive Tackle: Tristan Wirfs, Iowa
At 6’5” 322 pounds with a lengthy frame and light feet, Wirfs is one of the best prospects at offensive tackle in the 2020 NFL draft by measurables. With a stellar campaign at Iowa this past season, Wirfs has moved from a raw prospect to a more finished product with possible rookie potential.
The 2020 NFL Draft’s tackle class only has a single standout in Georgia’s Andrew Thomas, but there are other options down the draft board that could give teams a chance of finding their franchise blindside protector. Wirfs provides a coachable physical specimen who will be able to reach-block faster edge-rushers and be able to out-muscle big 3-4 defensive ends spread out wide.
Wirfs’ long kick-step gives him a distinct and significant advantage when attempting to beat a pass-rusher to the corner, and repeatedly washes them out behind the quarterback. Wirfs has also shown great hand placement to the chest of defenders time and time again, stalling a pass-rush before it can begin. His lengthy frame and strong build will serve him well against a variety of elite pass-rushing prototypes for years to come.
