Tight End: Albert Okwuegbunam, Missouri

With the most unique name of the 2020 NFL draft, Albert Okwuegbunam also has the most unique skill set at the tight end position. Okwuegbunam is a textbook definition of a tight end mismatch that utilizes speed.

Tight ends who are elite talents in the NFL commonly use one of two mismatches physically to succeed, either they are significantly bigger than their opposition with decent speed (ex: Rob Gronkowski) or they possess incredible speed and agility at a decent size (ex: Eric Ebron).

Okwuegbunam is the latter of the two, with a 6’5” frame and impressive speed as well as polished footwork.

Along with elite positional speed to outrun linebackers and a solid frame to outsize defensive backs, Okwuegbunam has the agility and footwork of an experienced wideout, especially in the back of the endzone.

Much of Okwuegbunam’s production in the end zone predicated on corners and fades, gaining outside leverage on a slower/smaller defender and beating them to the corner with a high floater. This is the exact type of production NFL teams look for from a tight end, and Okwuegbunam will be his future offensive coordinator’s favorite toy.

On his run and pass blocking Okwuegbunam does not block with the type of passion and competitiveness many teams look for, and will not be a dual-threat in the run game until he can find the motivation and ‘mean-streak’ to punish linebackers and safeties.

There is no denying his physical prowess, and Okwuegbunam will be a mismatch nightmare for future divisional rivals.
