The suspension of Ohio State’s Chase Young will not have an impact on his 2020 NFL Draft stock.

First reported by Austin Ward of Letterman Row, Ohio State edge rusher and top 2020 NFL Draft prospect Chase Young is facing a suspension. He is fully expected to miss this week’s game against Maryland and could be held out for the rest of the season.

Ohio State released a brief statement about the situation on Friday, and Chase Young took to Twitter to explain himself.

“Unfortunately, I won’t be playing this week because of an NCAA eligibility issue,” Young wrote. “I made a mistake last year by accepting a loan from a family friend I’ve known since the summer before my freshman year at OSU. I repaid it in full last summer and I’m working with the University and NCAA to get back on the field as soon as possible.”

Let’s be honest about this, as long as Young is telling the truth, this does not seem that bad. He borrowed some money from a family friend and has already paid it back. After this week, Chase Young should immediately back on the field to finish off his college career.

He is having one of the best seasons for a defensive player in college football in recent memory. Through eight games, Young has piled up 13.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss. He has also forced five fumbles on the season. Young has put himself in the conversation to be a legitimate Heisman Trophy contender. That being said, missing games is going to make an already difficult Heisman campaign nearly impossible. That is a shame.

On the bright side, this suspension is not going to affect Young’s 2020 NFL Draft stock at all. NFL teams are not going to be scared off by him accepting a loan from a family friend. He is still a likely top-three pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and even a possible first overall selection if the right team ends up picking number one.

Chase Young is the best defensive prospect that we have seen in recent memory and he is going to be a superstar at the next level. This is just a minor bump in the road for this Buckeye.
