4. Denver Broncos

John Elway has not yet found the franchise quarterback of the Denver Broncos in the post-Peyton Manning era.

At least, not that we know of.

Trevor Siemian wasn’t it. Case Keenum wasn’t it. Paxton Lynch wasn’t it. Brock Osweiler wasn’t it.

Joe Flacco wasn’t it, and he’s not in his prime, John.

Brandon Allen? Drew Lock? Allen is more likely a solid backup and spot starter, and the jury is still out on Drew Lock, who hasn’t even been brought off of IR to practice yet this season.

The Broncos under Elway have always preferred the veteran QB route. You can see some names on that list above, but you don’t see names like Colin Kaepernick and Tony Romo, veterans John Elway tried to get to Denver since Peyton has retired.

The Broncos also had interest in Kirk Cousins in 2018.

Broncos fans are mostly done with retread QBs but Newton might be a different story. He was taken one pick ahead of Von Miller in John Elway’s first draft class, and the Broncos dismantled the Panthers’ offense in Super Bowl 50, seemingly breaking Newton’s spirit in the process.

His history in the league could prevent this from being a great fit considering the Broncos are mostly a young team, but it’s an idea you have to assume John Elway will consider.
