2020 NFL Draft: First-round mock draft with four QBs early
Just two picks after taking a new franchise quarterback, the Raiders get some help on the defensive side of the ball. Trevon Diggs is one of the best cornerbacks in a loaded 2020 NFL draft class at the position. He is a big, long and physical cornerback who can completely overwhelm most receivers at the line of scrimmage.
Diggs’ size immediately stands out on the defensive side of the ball, but he is also a fast and athletic cornerback who can keep up downfield with even the fastest receivers on the outside. He shows solid short-area quickness that allows him to compete against the shiftier receivers, but Diggs is always going to be best suited to take on big receivers and guys who win with straight-line speed.
Against players like that, Diggs can be an absolute eraser at the next level. Just line him up in press coverage and let this guy go to work.
Iowa defensive end A.J. Epenesa fell a bit further in this mock draft than he probably should. In this range, Epenesa is a fantastic value selection for the Arizona Cardinals and a guy who they can use to help take their defense to the next level.
Epenesa is a power-based player who consistently wins at the point of attack. He is incredibly strong in all situations, using his raw power and great technique to take on blocks and blow past offensive linemen on his way to the quarterback. Epenesa is a strong run defender and has an impressive bull rush as a pass rusher. However, do not sleep on his athleticism. Epenesa is extremely quick off of the ball and can win with speed around the edge.
He consistently gets great upfield burst and even shows some solid ability to bend around the edge. Epenesa is never going to be mistaken for an elite speed rusher on the edge, but he does have some real ability in that area. Pair that up with his fantastic raw power and great technique and Epenesa will be a productive player at the next level no matter where he lines up.
