Seattle Seahawks: Josh Gordon addition brings huge upside
The Seattle Seahawks claimed talented wide receiver Josh Gordon on Friday, a move that could take them to the next level.
The Josh Gordon waiver sweepstakes took place on Friday and the Seattle Seahawks came out as the winners. Seattle had the 28th waiver priority, meaning 27 NFL teams passed on Gordon and his roughly $1 million remaining on his contract this season.
Gordon has been an extremely inconsistent player who has struggled with drug abuse throughout his career. However, when he has been on the field, Gordon has been a consistent playmaker.
Gordon is a dynamic athlete on the outside. He has tremendous natural speed and athleticism which allows him to make plays deep and is a fantastic run after catch player. Simply put, Gordon is a tremendous weapon on the outside who has a chance to make a major impact for Seattle this season.
The Seahawks have a solid group of receivers, but it is not like they are loaded at the position. Tyler Lockett has proved himself as Russell Wilson‘s number one target in the slot and rookie D.K. Metcalf has shown plenty of promise. However, the Seahawks lacked ideal depth after those top two. Gordon is far from a sure-thing at the position going forward, but he certainly can come in and provide some quality depth.
There was no reason for the Seattle Seahawks not to make this move. If Gordon can not come in and make an impact, they can simply move on from him and nothing major is lost. However, we know the kind of impact Gordon can have on the field. If he comes in and plays to the best of his abilities, Gordon takes this Seahawks team to the next level.
Make no mistake about it, this is a no-risk, high-reward kind of move that could become a major difference-maker for the Seattle Seahawks this season.
