LSU. 8. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. S. Grant Delpit. 53

Up next, the Cleveland Browns, who have been the most disappointing team in the NFL this season. The Browns have many impact players on both sides of the ball but have not been able to put it all together consistently this season. This is a team that lacks direction and they need to find players who can come in and make an immediate impact.

With the eighth overall pick of this mock draft, the Browns add LSU safety Grant Delpit to the mix. Delpit is one of the most talented and productive players in the 2020 NFL draft class, but safeties typically do not go high in the draft. Delpit could slip a bit further in the 2020 NFL Draft than he probably should, but he does not fall too far in this mock draft.

Delpit is a jack-of-all-trades on the defensive side of the ball, showing an impressive combination of speed, athleticism and physical toughness from the safety position. He is quick to the ball and explosive at the point of attack. He plays downhill extremely well, closing on the ball quickly and consistently making tackles in space.

Delpit is also strong in coverage, showing the ability to take care of running backs, tight ends and most wide receivers in man-to-man situations. He has primarily been an in-the-box defender in college, but Delpit shows the range and ball skills to be a strong deep zone defender as well.

The Browns have a talented defensive unit, but could use a leader to help tie the unit together. Delpit is the perfect kind of player for them to add to the mix on the defensive side of the ball.
