The Cleveland Browns have been one of the biggest disappointments in the NFL in 2019. How can the 2020 NFL Draft help them meet expectations?

It’s not unfair to say the Cleveland Browns have been one of the biggest disappointments in the NFL in 2019.

The Browns finally had some high expectations after a few things happened in 2018-19:

  • Baker Mayfield, the top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, was outstanding as a rookie
  • The defense looked excellent down the stretch
  • The Browns were in the playoff race deep into the 2018 season
  • The Odell Beckham Jr. trade
  • Excellent free agency
  • Stole Greedy Williams in the 2019 NFL Draft

Everything seemed to be coming together for the Cleveland Browns, and fans were rightly excited about the way the offseason went.

This team is probably one of the most fun ones to play with on Madden, but in real life? Things have been a bit different.

Head coach Freddie Kitchens is struggling to find the right formula offensively. The defense is playing solid, but the offense is turning the ball over at such a high rate, it doesn’t really matter.

The Browns’ offensive line is atrocious, and Baker Mayfield has seemingly regressed from his stellar rookie season.

Everyone expected Mayfield to be up there among the Pat Mahomes’ of the world after his strong rookie campaign, but Mayfield has instead been dwelling in the depths among the league’s worst QBs when it comes to turnover rate and touchdown percentage (2.6 percent, T-3rd worst in the NFL).

Although the Browns have a ton of talent and probably should be better than 2-5, they have some time yet. These players are mostly all young and finding their way. Another year together, another offseason together, and another draft class could have this team truly in contention in 2020.

Right now, the Browns are slated for a top 10 selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. How could they use their 2020 draft capital to establish themselves as contenders again next offseason?

Let’s have some fun with a four-round mock draft scenario.
