The Redskins spent their first-round pick last year on their new quarterback of the future, Dwayne Haskins. While he has not impressed when he’s been on the field in 2019, he is their guy and they should give him time to develop. Do you know what else they should give him? Some more weapons to throw to.
Terry McLaurin has been great in his rookie year and is someone that Haskins is familiar with from their time at Ohio State. But behind McLaurin? The Skins have Paul Richardson, Trey Quinn, Steven Simms Jr., and Kelvin Harmon listed at wide receiver on their depth chart. No offense to those guys, but that group isn’t exactly setting Haskins up to flourish in the NFL.
Getting a target like Jerry Jeudy in the 2020 NFL Draft would make Haskins one of the happiest guys in D.C. Some may think that taking a wide receiver at three is just preposterous. But those people clearly haven’t seen Jerry Jeudy.
Jeudy is one of the most fluid route runners coming out of college that most scouts have ever seen. He has a quick first step and can cut on a dime and separate from his defender in an instant. He then has the speed to leave his man in the dust and take any ball to the house for six.
On shorter passes, Jeudy is a dangerous playmaker with the ball in his hands, with elusive moves of a running back. His speed makes him a deep threat, his agility and route running make him a great third-down target, and Jeudy is even a solid blocker for his teammates.
A truly well-rounded, elite wide receiver prospect like Jeudy is hard to come by. This 2020 NFL draft class is loaded with talent at receiver, but no one else like Jeudy. He is a generational talent that will step into the NFL and be one of the best in the league.
Already having their quarterback and with a guy like Chase Young not really fitting all too well into their defensive scheme, Washington would be wise to begin building their offense around Dwayne Haskins and giving him all the tools that they can for him to succeed. Jeudy is the Swiss Army knife that Haskins will always keep in his pocket.
