LSU. Joe Burrow. 2. player. Pick Analysis. Quarterback . 59. Scouting Report

Quarterback is clearly the biggest need for the team that is most clearly “tanking” this season. But through that process, they have landed a lot of picks that, if used correctly, can load their roster with some solid young pieces to build around for years to come.

With three first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Dolphins can certainly make a splash (no pun intended). Almost certainly, their own pick will be up first and it will likely be top two. That would put them in prime position to grab one of the top quarterback prospects in this class, Tua or Joe Burrow.

That would have been absurd to say as recently as the start of this college football season, but what Burrow has done and shown to this point in 2019 makes it clear that he is in the conversation for number one overall pick come April.

Tua and Burrow are the most complete QB prospects at this point with no really glaring, exploitable weaknesses in their game. Tua is a bit more dynamic both as a runner and as a passer so he got the edge here, but Burrow could play his way to the number one pick if he keeps it up.

Burrow has the prototypical size for an NFL quarterback at 6’4″ 216 lbs and has been on an absolute tear for the LSU Tigers this year. Through eight games, Burrow has thrown for 2,805 yards, 30 touchdowns, just four interceptions, and is completing 79 percent of his passes. Throw in a potential Heisman trophy and Joe Burrow may just be the first name called in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Burrow always looks so comfortable and confident when he’s back to pass. He is confident in his reads and comfortable in the pocket to move around, evade pressure, and deliver an accurate ball. And evidenced by his incredible completion percentage, Burrow throws tons of perfectly delivered balls into the correct receiving windows for the situation.

Burrow doesn’t have the biggest arm in the draft, but he can zip throws into tight windows and has great touch on his deep balls. He makes good, quick reads and has a quick delivery to go along with it.

“Tank for Tua” may be the popular slogan for the 2020 NFL Draft, but Joe Burrow wouldn’t be a bad consolation prize at all. To see how much Burrow has grown and improved from last year to this year leads you to believe that he will only get better and better as time goes on.

Burrow has a ton of talent around him at LSU, so providing him with efficient weapons should be a priority for the Dolphins with their other early picks, as well as protecting their future franchise quarterback that no one really saw coming.
