Henry Ruggs III. player. 28. Scouting Report. Wide Receiver. Alabama. 16. Pick Analysis

Remember when the Raiders “stole” the best receiver in the league last offseason for a third and a fifth-round pick? Well, that guy is no longer in Oakland or the National Football League, so the Raiders desperately need to find a playmaker on the outside in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Henry Ruggs III certainly fits the bill for the Raiders and would be a great fit in that offense. Ruggs is a real burner, possessing the top-notch speed that should show up big at the combine. Beyond his raw speed, Ruggs is just a natural athlete with great leaping ability to go up and get jump-balls with ease.

Ruggs has great hands and body control, allowing him to make some crazy contested grabs. Once the ball is in his hands, Ruggs can make a move and completely check out on the defense to the end zone.

A solid route runner, Ruggs always gets to the correct depth, creates enough separation from the defender, and makes catches with his soft hands. He is a solid blocker as well and can run every route on the route tree.

Right now, the starting receivers for the Raiders are Tyrell Williams, Zay Jones and Hunter Renfrow, all of whom were acquired this past offseason. None of these guys come close to Ruggs’ talent level. Rugs can take the top off of the defense in a way that no current Raiders receiver can.

He would be a welcomed addition for Derek Carr, who instead of seeing his potential replacement chosen with this pick, he gets a dynamic playmaker to throw the ball to like he was expecting to have this season. Ruggs isn’t Antonio Brown, but he brings some abilities that Carr hasn’t had the opportunity to work with yet, and I’m sure he would be eager to link up and get to work.
