Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Oregon. player. 48. Quarterback. Justin Herbert. 11

It will be interesting to see how Jameis Winston performs for the Buccaneers the rest of the season, as he will be playing for a new contract with his current deal expiring after 2018. Assuming the Bucs do end up picking somewhere in this range, I think they ultimately make the decision to move on from Winston and let Bruce Arians pick the next quarterback that he wants to groom.

I think that guy could likely end up being Justin Herbert from Oregon. Herbert had a lot of hype as the first overall pick in last year’s draft, but he opted to return to school instead of declaring. Now, Herbert seems to have been overtaken by a couple of guys, but I think he still has the highest ceiling of any QB prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Herbert is incredibly talented, and his arm jumps off the screen. He has the ability to make any throw on the field and probably has in his time at Oregon. His decision making can be shaky at times, he struggles against pressure, and his accuracy can come and go at times, but he has the potential to be one of the best QBs in the NFL if he can get it all together.

Herbert throws with great zip and can fit the ball into the tightest of windows. He has great touch on deep balls and very good ball placement in different situations to protect his receiver and the ball. He can throw from the hash to the opposite sideline with ease and can put the ball on a dime down the boundary even on throws down the field.

Herbert’s flustered reactions to pressure may turn many teams off, and maybe even the Bucs with what they’ve seen from Jameis Winston this year. Maybe they want a guy like Jake Fromm who will take care of the ball and make the easy, simple decisions and throws. But I’d bet Arians would rather take a chance on honing in and developing the arm talent that has already been on display.

How many times have Winston and Evans failed to connect on deep balls down the field? I think Herbert hits many of those throws. With Evans and Chris Godwin to throw to, Herbert should feel confident, even under pressure, that he can at least put the ball out there for his receiver to make a play.
