2020 NFL Draft: Ranking the top 10 running backs
By Jason Truitt
I’ve almost lost count on how many multi-touchdown,100-plus scrimmage yard games Wisconsin Badger RB, Jonathan Taylor, has had this season. But thanks to the wonders of the internet, I do need to keep track: five out of seven games played…so far.
Taylor has had three four-touchdown outings this season. THREE. In about two and a half seasons – including playoff games – Taylor has run for over 5,000 yards. Currently ranked third in total rushing yards in all of the NCAA.
He lacks production in the passing game but makes up for it when he’s handed the rock. Last season, Taylor won the Doak Walker Award, which recognizes the best running back in college football. He has a chance to do it again this year.
Taylor seems to mostly have it all: speed, vision, acceleration, and with 220 pounds of what seems like pure muscle, he certainly has the size.
His style and build reminds me of Saquon Barkley, a powerful downhill runner with above-average acceleration for his size. This quick power back is hard to bring down, proving it in his first season as a starter after leading all Big Ten running backs in yards after contact. He needs to work on ball security with 10 fumbles lost in his three-year college career.
Wisconsin has a history of sending off strong and talented ball carriers to the NFL. Taylor hopes to be the next one for whatever team he plays for when his name is called in the 2020 NFL Draft.
