2020 NFL Draft: Joe Burrow has opportunity to prove himself again
LSU quarterback Joe Burrow is the hottest name in the 2020 NFL Draft. He will have another opportunity to prove himself as a premier prospect this week against Auburn.
Each week, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow establishes himself as more and more of a legitimate 2020 NFL draft prospect. Burrow has been arguably the best player in college football this season and has been flying up draft boards throughout the year. Now, he simply must be considered among the elite players in the 2020 NFL draft class.
Through seven games this season, Burrow has completed 79.4 percent of his passes for 2,484 yards, 29 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He has been absolutely unstoppable this season and is arguably the front-runner for the Heisman Trophy. Burrow has also put himself in the conversation to be the top overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Obviously, we have a long way to go before the 2020 NFL Draft, but if Burrow continues to play at this pace, he has to be considered as a possible first pick. This week, Burrow and the second-ranked LSU Tigers play host to No. 9 Auburn. This is an important battle between two talented SEC squads and another opportunity for Burrow to establish himself as a premier draft prospect.
Auburn has a solid defense that could give Burrow and LSU fits this week. They have only allowed 17.1 points per game this season, the fifth-lowest total in the SEC. However, Auburn is much better at stopping the run than they are the pass.
They have a loaded defensive front seven, but their secondary has been mediocre. On the year, Auburn has allowed 226.1 passing yards per game, the fifth-most in the SEC. Auburn is also ranked 29th in the nation in team passing efficiency defense.
Basically, Auburn can be exploited through the air, but they are still considered a premier defensive unit. Burrow has a great opportunity to ball out in this game and put up huge numbers against Auburn, and if he does so, most will think he dominated a premier defense. Auburn has a solid defense this year, but they are not as strong as they have been in past years.
Joe Burrow should have another big game against Auburn this week, which could take his 2020 NFL draft stock to an even higher level.
