New York Giants seven-round 2020 NFL mock draft
By Jason Truitt
The New York Giants might readdress protecting Daniel Jones later in the draft after going big on offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs in the first. This time they will go interior with their second Fighting Irish of the draft, Tommy Kraemer.
Kraemer’s mass alone could make anyone want his physical assistance. The 6-foot-5, 313-pound guard obtains above-average flexibility for his size and plays angry. Kraemer has helped lead the Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book to over 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns already this season.
If you watch his film against Clemson in the 2018 Cotton Bowl, he single-handily opened up huge holes for Notre Dame running back Dexter Williams. The Irish got clobbered 3-30, but Kraemer had a good outing regardless of that game’s final score.
With the support of New York Giants veteran guard Kevin Zeitler, I believe Kraemer could develop into a solid offensive lineman at the next level.
The New York Giants need more running back depth behind Barkley, especially after his first NFL injury that has will his sidelined for more than a few weeks. J.J Taylor’s small frame grants him the ability to make people miss off short strides. He is able to contribute on special teams as well.
Taylor has demonstrated no input in the passing game, something starting running backs typically must have in the league now.
However, Taylor shows excellent acceleration, reaching top speeds before he reaches the line of scrimmage. His running style and vision are vastly different from Barkley. It would add that diversity to the backfield. The Giants’ current second-string running back, Wayne Gallman, has shown promise but remains inconsistent. It will be worth taking the risk on drafting a running back late in the 2020 NFL Draft.
