New York Giants seven-round 2020 NFL mock draft
By Jason Truitt
Joe Bachie Jr. has raised his draft stock after some good showings this season. Bachie earned himself the Big Ten’s defensive player of the week earlier this year after getting an interception, 13.5 tackles and a sack against Northwestern. He also made a goal-line stop on 4th & Goal in that same game.
Bachie Jr. is a good blitzer, something the New York Giants did on over a fifth of their defensive snaps last season, according to Football Outsiders. With the ability to track down the quarterback in the pocket with his speed, Bachie is able to turn a handful of passing and running plays into loss yardage. Having caused 28 tackles-for-loss during his college career. His power should fit well on the big blue wrecking crew.
The best aspect of Bachie’s game is that he naturally and aggressively punches and picks at the ball when making the tackle. He has caused multiple forced fumbles during his time at Michigan State.
Bachie’s college stats do not meet his play. He consistently attacks the runner and can always be found within feet of the ball, no matter the play call. Playing style reminds me of Cowboys star linebacker Leighton Vander Esch.
Gabriel Davis possesses one thing most of the New York Giants wide receivers don’t have, size.
Matter of fact, none of the New York Giants starting three receivers are over 200 pounds. And Golden Tate and Shepard are both under six feet. At 6-foot-3, 212 pounds as a Junior with time to grow, Davis will bring something new to quarterback Daniel Jones’ weaponry.
Just a couple weeks ago, he made this determined amazing catch against Cincinnati.
Through six games this season, Davis’ stat line is neat with 38 receptions for 669 yards and eight touchdowns. He needs to work on his route running, but overall, Davis is an extremely talented wide receiver who has an impressive well-rounded game.
