Los Angeles Rams: 5 trade targets prior to NFL trade deadline
By Ian Higgins
The Los Angeles Rams currently sit at 3-3, with seriously concerning losses to inferior opposition. What acquisitions can be made to change the tides?
With the departure of Marcus Peters and the arrival of Jalen Ramsey, Wade Phillips looks to move to an aggressive man defense that can bring pressure from their star pass rushers, Aaron Donald and Dante Fowler Jr. With talent along the defensive line, Aqib Talib (once he returns from injured reserve) and Ramsey simply just need to disrupt timing at the line of scrimmage with physical jamming. Opposing quarterbacks should have fits if Phillips can harness all of the potential in his defense.
Offensively, the repeated use of loaded fronts since the loss to Chicago last season has hampered production time and time again. McVay’s system relies heavily upon consistent production from Todd Gurley to set up play-action on third down. When there is no running game, there is very little offense produced. At this time, Jared Goff is not capable of producing consistent offense without this gameplan, which was shown to the football world in their Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots.
With a depleted draft asset pool and a presumed unwillingness to part ways with many of their key personnel in a trade, the Rams will need to go bargain hunting at this trade deadline and look for either undervalued or little known values around the league to improve. The Los Angeles Rams front office has gone for a total buy-in on the “win-now” philosophy, and need to bring about results before key players come up for new contracts.
