Kansas City Chiefs: Five QBs to acquire after Patrick Mahomes injury
Only time will tell what the severity of Mahomes’ injury is, and how long it will keep him sidelined. The Kansas City Chiefs clearly fared okay without him, still beating the Broncos 30-6 with Matt Moore finishing out the game. Moore looked pretty good on Thursday night but has only been with the team for this season.
Kansas City very well could opt to stick with Moore and just bring in a new back-up to him, especially if Mahomes is only out a few weeks. But if Mahomes is to miss the rest of the season, the Chiefs would be remiss to not look outside the locker room and outside the box for a new answer at quarterback.
The five/six names above all would make some sort of sense for the Chiefs to at least look into. Nick Foles would also make sense if he returns healthy sooner rather than later from his own injury, given his connection with Andy Reid. Nick Mullens of the 49ers proved last year that he can be a viable fill-in option if a starter goes down with an injury.
Regardless of what they chose to do, the Kansas City Chiefs will need a solid quarterback going forward if they want to maintain any hope of competing for a championship this season. For Kansas City, they have to hope that Mahomes’ injury will not require surgery and/or whoever ends up filling in for him comes in and performs well.
After losing their last two games, Thursday night’s win was an important one for the Chiefs. At 5-2, they are in the driver’s seat in the AFC West and right in the thick of things in the AFC. If they can get some steady quarterback play, their roster is talented enough to compete for a championship.
