Who should the Kansas City Chiefs look to acquire at quarterback if Patrick Mahomes ends up being out for the year?

During the first half of the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday Night Football matchup against the Denver Broncos, Patrick Mahomes was ruled out for the remainder of the game following what appeared to be a serious knee injury.

We don’t want to speculate the degree of the injury at this point, but quickly after walking off of the field, Mahomes was ruled out for the rest of the game, which is rarely a good sign. Mahomes sustained the injury on a fourth-and-one quarterback sneak attempt with 10 minutes left in the second quarter.

ESPN medical expert Dr. Mark Adickes tweeted that the injury Mahomes likely suffered was a patella (knee cap) dislocation. Adickes explained that the injury can be treated without surgery and with a brace, but it may also end up in season-ending surgery. An MRI will determine which route will be taken by Mahomes and the Kansas City medical staff.

If the further evaluation determines that Mahomes should undergo season-ending surgery to repair his knee, what would the plan be for the Kansas City Chiefs going forward in 2019 without their MVP? Should they stick with Matt Moore or look to acquire a quarterback via trade or free agency?

In this post, we take a look at five quarterbacks that Kansas City could bring in to help them salvage what looked like a promising season this year.
