2018: Fred Warner, LB, BYU

Fred Warner was made in a lab, prove me wrong.

As a matter of fact, all three of the players on this list for the 49ers look like they were tailor made by the football gods to play their respective positions.

Fred Warner, a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of BYU, was vastly underrated because of the school he played at. I mean that as no disrespect to BYU, but if Warner had played at Alabama, do you think he would have been higher than a third-round pick?

The 6-foot-3, 236-pound freak of an athlete ran a 4.63 in the 40-yard dash, had a 38.5-inch vertical jump, and a 6.90 in the three-cone drill showing off his short-area quickness.

Warner has been an absolute monster for the 49ers so far in just over a season.

He has started all of his 21 games (at the time of this writing) and has 155 tackles, eight pass breakups, five tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and three quarterback hits in that time.

Warner’s speed, play recognition, instincts, range, and ability to finish have helped elevate the 49ers defense way faster than many people felt possible.

He’s a star.
