Round 6, Pick 167: Damar Hamlin, S, Pittsburgh

At this point in this Jaguars 2020 mock draft, the team has taken three players on offense and three on defense. Now, the defense takes the lead, as the Jacksonville Jaguars select Pittsburgh safety Damar Hamlin with the 167th overall pick of this mock draft.

Hamlin is the ideal late-round safety target, as he has a lot of starting experience, possesses a history of creating plays and is a key part of a very good overall Panthers defense.

He may not be one of the bigger impact players for Pitt, but he plays his role well and has the size, speed and motor that you look for in a day-three pick.

That combination of traits is moldable and is vital for someone like this to make it on special teams early in their career.

The Jags have seen some unexpected solid play from undrafted safety Andrew Wingard, but his style of play would be best suited for strong safety, which means the spot as Jarrod Wilson’s backup could be open after Cody Davis’s deal ends after the season.

Damar Hamlin could be a solid option to fill that potential hole.
