2020 NFL Draft: First-round mock draft includes Joe Burrow in top 12
Marcus Mariota has not been awful this season. Inconsistent, sure, but not awful. That being said, at this point, we know what Mariota is as an NFL quarterback. He is not a guy who you can count on to lead you to the promised land. He is a mediocre starting option who is never going to be the reason an NFL team has a winning season.
If the Tennessee Titans expect to have success moving forward, they have to figure out a way to improve their quarterback situation. In this 2020 NFL draft scenario, they bring in LSU’s Joe Burrow to save the day.
Burrow has completely torn up college football this season and has gone from possible Day three 2020 NFL draft pick to a likely top-15 selection. Through six games this season, Burrow has completed 79.6 percent of his passes for 2,157 yards, 25 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has been one of the best players in college football and is establishing himself as one of the premier quarterbacks in the 2020 NFL Draft class.
Burrow is an extremely confident passer who is not afraid to push the ball down the field. He also shows an extremely quick release and fantastic accuracy to all fields. Burrow has done a nice job of simply sitting back, finding the open receiver and getting the ball to him quickly.
He is a smart quarterback prospect who rarely makes the wrong decision and understands when to tuck the ball and run. Burrow does most of his damage with his arm, but he does have some nice mobility as well.
Burrow is also an extremely confident player who shows impressive leadership skills. NFL teams are going to fall in love with his demeanor on the field. Simply put, Burrow has had an incredible season and is putting himself in the conversation to be the next quarterback after Tagovailoa. As of right now, this feels like the right range for Burrow, but he will likely continue to rise if he continues to play at such a high level.
