2020 NFL Draft: First-round mock draft includes Joe Burrow in top 12
The 2019 season has not exactly gone according to plan for the Los Angeles Chargers. They are supposed to be legitimate contenders in the AFC this season but have struggled out of the gates. With the schedule getting easier as the season moves along, I expect the Chargers to turn their season around soon. It is unlikely that they actually end up picking this high in the 2020 NFL Draft, but if they do, Clemson’s Isaiah Simmons is an obvious target for the team.
Is Simmons a linebacker or a safety? Honestly, who cares? This guy is a tremendous football player who fits the modern NFL perfectly. Simmons is an incredibly athletic linebacker who dominates in space and is fantastic in coverage. Sure, he is a bit on the small side, but linebackers are only getting smaller in the NFL, his size is not a major concern.
Simmons is an extremely quick and instinctive player who gets in position to make plays quickly. He ranges from sideline-to-sideline and always seems to be around the ball.
Creative NFL defensive coaches will have a blast having Simmons on their roster. He can play linebacker, actual deep safety and even takes some snaps at the slot cornerback position. Simmons has more true versatility than I have ever seen in a prospect and he is an absolute playmaker on the defensive side of the ball.
In this mock draft, the Chargers snag one of the most interesting players in the entire 2020 NFL draft class.
