Round 2, #33 Overall: Javon Kinlaw, DL, South Carolina

Two picks for the Miami Dolphins in round two, and adding help for the defensive line is first up. Miami did draft Christian Wilkins in the first round last season, and it’s important to watch him develop in the coming seasons. However, adding more help on the interior can free up their rushers on the outside.

Javon Kinlaw can be a great addition to this Dolphins defense. He could play multiple positions in their front, but he’d work well attacking gaps and disrupting plays as a three-down defender. Kinlaw has been much quicker off the snap this season and uses his natural power to win on the interior. He also has the motor and athleticism to turn and chase down plays.

Round 2, #61 Overall: DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama

It’s easy to get caught up in the top tier talent of this receiver class, so I get the notion of drafting one in the first round. There is plenty of depth to this class as well, especially if a large number of underclassmen declare.

One of those underclassmen is Alabama’s DeVonta Smith. Smith had an excellent game this past weekend against Ole Miss, catching 11 passes for 274 yards and scoring five touchdowns, the last two of which are Alabama records. So is the recency bias kicking in here? Not at all. Smith has great quickness and fluidity to his route running and has great hands on top of it. Plus, pairing him with Tua brings immediate chemistry.
