Miami Dolphins 2020 7-round NFL Mock Draft: Rebuild starts with new QB
Round 1, #25 Overall: Jeffrey Okudah, CB, Ohio State
In a passing league, it’s important to have enough talent in the secondary, especially knowing you’re playing the Patriots twice a year. The secondary doesn’t have much outside of Xavien Howard right now. Castoffs Eric Rowe and Johnson Bademosi are currently parts of the starting corner group, and Reshad Jones has been declining at safety. They need an influx of young talent in the secondary and should spend early draft capital on the position.
Jeffrey Okudah had a big week against Nebraska, recording two interceptions and proving he has the ball skills that many believed he needed to show in 2019 to become a first-round prospect. No one has enjoyed the rise he had with a single performance.
Besides the ball skills, there’s plenty to like about Okudah. He’s very fluid as an athlete and can change direction with ease in coverage. Okudah can also click and close with great instincts and recovery speed. He reminds me of Marshon Lattimore with those elite traits. If he continues to show the ball skills, Okudah will probably rise even higher. For now, it’s still possible to get him at this point in the draft.
Pairing Okudah with Xavien Howard would guarantee a very good duo for years to come.
