Round 1, #7 Overall: Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa

The Miami Dolphins have Tua, and now they have to find someone to replace Tunsil and keep Tua in a clean pocket. Right now, Jesse Davis is their starter at left tackle, while Julie’n Davenport starts on the right side. Both of those spots need to be upgraded for this team to get on the right track offensively.

Enter Tristan Wirfs, who is currently challenging Andrew Thomas for the top tackle prospect in the class. Wirfs started on the right side of the line this season for the Iowa Hawkeyes, but an injury to Alaric Jackson forced Wirfs over to the left side. While some players struggle with the transition, Wirfs has made it look easy.

It starts with his footwork. He is great dropping into pass protection and keeps a good base to stay balanced. Wirfs also is great with his hands, getting a good initial punch and great technique to keep defenders off-balanced. Let’s not forget about the run game, where Wirfs gets off the ball quick and can move defenders with his frame.

There is talk about whether Wirfs will declare, but for now, he’s a top tackle prospect and a needed commodity for the Miami Dolphins.
