2020 NFL Mock Draft: Four teams land their QB of the future
10. Indianapolis Colts: Xavier McKinney, S, Alabama
If you asked Indianapolis Colts fans after the Andrew Luck retirement who they think the team should be targeting in the next draft, I have a feeling many would be on the “Tank for Tua” bandwagon. Here we are four weeks into the season and that tone has shifted drastically, as Jacoby Brissett has played some good football thus far.
With that being the case, the Colts fill a real need by drafting Alabama’s Xavier McKinney with the 10th overall pick of this 2020 NFL mock draft.
The team signed Clayton Geathers to a one year deal this offseason to return as the team’s strong safety, but they should be looking to replace him come the 2020 draft.
McKinney would be the ideal option to slide in and play alongside Malik Hooker to potentially form one of the better young safety duos in the NFL today.
McKinney is a terrific athlete that flies to the football, as he is quick to diagnose plays. His motor is always running and he is not afraid to hit you in the mouth. He shows a good balance of skill in both the pass and run game that could allow him to play a versatile role that is so important in today’s game.
The Colts are close to having a good defensive unit and adding McKinney to the mix could provide them with strength on the back end of the secondary that could help other young players flourish as well.
