2020 NFL Draft: Matchup vs. LSU incredibly important for QB Jordan Love

Utah State quarterback Jordan Love could drastically improve his 2020 NFL draft stock with a strong performance against LSU on Saturday.

Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is considered by most to be the top quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft class, followed closely by Oregon’s Justin Herbert. After those top two, there are a handful of quarterbacks who could find themselves being selected in the first round next April. Today, we are going to focus on one of the more interesting quarterbacks in that group, Utah State’s Jordan Love.

Love is an incredibly gifted quarterback prospect who shows ideal size and natural ability at the position. He is a mobile quarterback who shows all of the arm talent in the world. Love can escape the pocket and make any throw on the run and can fit balls into tight spaces on a consistent basis. Simply put, he is one of the most physically gifted quarterback prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft.

That being said, he has been a little inconsistent throughout his college career. Love has the raw skillset to dominate at the next level, but he needs to improve his decision-making process. Love forces the ball into traffic far too often and his accuracy can be spotty. The Utah State product shows flashes of high-level accuracy, but it simply does not show up often enough.

This week, Love will have the toughest test of his college career, as he will lead Utah State into Death Valley to take on LSU. The LSU Tigers has one of the most talented defenses in all of college football, lead by an incredible secondary. Safety Grant Delpit and cornerback Kristian Fulton are both likely first-round 2020 NFL Draft prospects who lead the way for the LSU defense. They will undoubtedly make life difficult on Love on Saturday.

Utah State is obviously at a significant talent disadvantage when it comes to this game. Their offensive line is going to have problems blocking LSU’s defensive front and their wide receivers are going to struggle to get open. If they are going to move the ball and score at all, Utah State is going to need a massive performance out of Love on Saturday.

While this matchup is obviously going to be tough for Love, it represents an incredible opportunity for him. If he can step up and have success against LSU, it will do wonders for his 2020 NFL Draft stock.

NFL scouts will have a close eye on this game. If Love can ball out against this loaded LSU defense, it will establish him as a first-round prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft. Can Love make the most out of this golden opportunity?
