Arizona Cardinals: Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia

Alright, let’s get a little weird. The Arizona Cardinals will have an interesting decision to make if they are the team that ends up picking first overall. Unless Kyler Murray looks like a historical bust the rest of the way, Tagovailoa and the other quarterbacks are not an option. This leaves an interesting trio of players to consider.

If the Cardinals end up with the top pick, they will likely look to trade down. With that not being an option here, the decision comes down to three players; Young, Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs and my choice, Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas. Pairing Young with Chandler Jones is undoubtedly tempting, but I wanted to mix it up a bit and the Cardinals presented the perfected opportunity to do so.

Right now, I have Thomas and Wirfs basically even as the top offensive linemen in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, with Thomas consistently dominating against SEC competition, I give him a slight edge at the moment.

If the Cardinals are going to get the most out of Murray, they simply must protect him better going forward. Murray has been running for his life all season long and will continue to struggle if they cannot get him any protection.

Thomas is a superb pass protect and elite run blocker who could come in and shine right away at left tackle. The Cardinals’ offensive line is an absolute mess, and if they have an opportunity to land a guy like Thomas, it would be hard to pass up.
