Miami Dolphins rookie wide receiver Preston Williams could break out in a major way this weekend.

We all know that the Miami Dolphins are not going to win many (if any) games this season. They are not a good football team as currently constructed and clearly have their eyes on the future. While they may not have many players who will likely be major contributors in future seasons, rookie wide receiver Preston Williams is one of the few players on the team worth keeping an eye on.

Williams is an incredibly talented receiver who has great size on the outside and he knows how to use it well. He is an impressive contested-catch receiver who fights for the ball in the air well and also has enough speed to make plays deep down the field.

The undrafted rookie out of Colorado State had an incredible preseason, consistently making plays for the Dolphins in the passing game. He has built on his preseason success with a solid start to the regular season, especially for an undrafted rookie.

In his NFL debut against the Baltimore Ravens, Williams caught three passes for 24 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown catch was the only touchdown scored by the Miami Dolphins in that game. Last week against the New England Patriots, Williams brought in four receptions for 63 yards. Most importantly, he saw much more playing time in the Dolphins offense.

According to Football Guys, Williams played in 42 percent of the Dolphins’ offensive snaps in Week 1. Williams saw an increase in snaps in Week 2, playing 68 percent of his team’s offensive snaps. Obviously, the Dolphins are looking to get Williams more involved and will likely to continue to do so going forward.

When Williams had all of his success this preseason, Josh Rosen was typically the one throwing him passes. The young quarterback and receiver clearly had a nice rapport and that could easily continue going forward. Rosen taking over as the Dolphins’ starting quarterback this week is another reason to believe that Williams will be showcased against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

When it comes down to it, Williams is an extremely talented young player who could grow into an important piece for the team down the line. They have no reason not to feature him in their offense this season and I think his breakout begins this week against the Cowboys.
