J.K. Dobbins, Ohio State

J.K. Dobbins is a strong runner who can still make moves when in the hole or on the second level. His combination of power and slippery moves makes him a tough tackle in the open field. To take him down you need to get a good hit on him, and that is difficult when he’s maneuvering his frame around defenders every play.

Dobbins reminds me of Fournette. That is if the Jaguars’ back used more lateral motion in his running game to avoid tacklers instead of taking them head-on. He is not nearly as fluid as many other backs, such as Swift, but uses their running style in a much stronger frame.

Dobbins has not shown impressive production rushing outside the tackles but has had the majority of his runs came from the shotgun formation. This speaks very well to his readiness for an NFL offense. He did not produce through the air much, but if he can prove his ability to make plays outside then he could be a solid option out of the backfield and on third down.

Dobbins is a combination of power and agility we do not see combined frequently, bringing together two conflicting styles of rushing. The first tackler rarely gets a good hit on Dobbins, and his size allows him to brush off sideswipes that may take down less imposing runners.

I look forward to seeing where Dobbins ends up in the 2020 NFL Draft. If he gets an opportunity as a lead back in the NFL before his rookie contract ends, the sky is the limit.

Prediction: “The Good”
