Dolphins 7-round 2020 NFL mock draft: Building around new franchise QB
Round 2, 33rd Overall: K’Lavon Chaisson, EDGE, LSU
Having the first pick of the second round can be an extremely valuable situation. After teams retreat and asses after round one, the trade value of the first pick of day two always seems to increase. In this mock draft, trades were not available, but the Dolphins were still able to add an impact player for their defensive rebuild.
By the time the actual 2020 NFL Draft rolls around, LSU edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson could easily establish himself as a top ten pick. He is an incredibly mobile and athletic player on the edge who shows tremendous upfield burst and incredible bend around the edge. Health is a concern here and Chaisson does have build up his pass rush repertoire, but he is an incredibly interesting prospect who could grow into a monster with the Miami Dolphins.
Round 2, 61st Overall: Tylan Wallace, WR, Oklahoma State
After finding Tua a franchise offensive tackle in the first round, the Dolphins get him a talented pass-catcher to work with here in the second. Tylan Wallace is an extremely quick and smooth route runner who consistently finds space against man coverage. He breaks off his routes like a 10-year NFL vet and has the speed and quickness to create separation at all levels of the defense.
While Wallace is a bit on the small side, he is an extremely tough and physical receiver who competes hard for the ball in the air. He is a consistent hands catcher who can win one-on-one balls against tight coverage and always brings in the easy passes. Wallace also has impressive run after catch ability, showing fantastic elusiveness in the open field.
The 2020 NFL Draft is going to be extremely deep at the wide receiver position and that is going to cause some talented players to slip a bit. In this case, the Dolphins jump on some nice value, drafting a potential first-round talent late in the second.
