NFL Week 1 rookie highlights: The Nick Bosa theorem
By Ian Higgins
Devin Bush, LB, Pittsburgh Steelers
11 tackles
Bush was brought in to be the new anchor of this defense, hopefully filling the void Shazier left after his injury.
His primary role will be tackle production and the basic duties of a 3-4 MLB, and it showed with his 11 tackles even though the Steelers had a very unimpressive evening. Bush still sits behind Barron and Williams on the depth chart, but could very well begin taking some of Williams snaps if he provides the same production and lateral mobility to this defense.
Bush did decently for the most part on mismatch coverage, keeping with running backs out of the backfield and having only one significant loss to Rex Burkhead on a drag route with a designed pick to block him.
His speed is reminiscent of Shazier (4.36 for Shazier at an Ohio State pro day, Bush had a 4.44 at the 2019 combine), and 11 tackles shows he could be the next center piece to a steel curtain defense.
