After NFL week 1, we have gotten our real first look at some of the products from this 2019 NFL draft class. Which rookies shined in their debuts?

This most recent draft class brought much intrigue to many rosters, from Baltimore having a deep receiving threat to the Raiders taking Clelin Ferrell at no. 4 overall. Many rookies made a major impact in their debuts, and we will be taking a look at those which shined the brightest this past week.

Kyler Murray, QB, Arizona Cardinals

29-of-54, 308 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interception

After a wild tie in Arizona, Kyler Murray’s debut created some concern as well as hope for the future. Kyler put up 308 yards on 29 of 54 passing, with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.

He also had 3 rushes for 13 yards, showing off his ability to extend plays as well. He was very comfortable in the pocket under pressure, and did a good job of keeping his eyes downfield and moving from read to read.

The Lions defense did a great job in the first half forcing Murray off his spot, and keeping passing windows small. Some of his ball placement through the game before the comeback was at best questionable, putting his receivers into losing situations, or losing out on easy yards on the run-after-catch.

He also had a concerning number of balls that sailed out of the catch radius of his receivers when a well placed high ball would have been an important completion. On the other side of the coin, during the Cardinal’s comeback Murray showed good decision making and the ability to get the ball out quick.

His placement was still concerning but on short to intermediate routes, he was consistent and accurate. His style of play was very reminiscent of Russell Wilson, but with the arm of Josh Freeman.
