2020 NFL Draft: Joe Burrow flies into first round of NFL Mock Draft
LSU quarterback Joe Burrow is becoming an interesting 2020 NFL Draft prospect.
After back-to-back fantastic performances to start the season, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow is certainly rising up 2020 NFL Draft boards. The Tigers have introduced a new wide-open spread offensive attack this season and Burrow appears right at home.
In their season-opening victory over Georgia Southern, the senior quarterback completed 23-of-27 passes for 278 yards and five touchdowns. In his first real test of the year, Burrow led LSU to a 45-38 victory over then ninth-ranked Texas. Against Texas, Burrow completed 31-of-39 passes for 471 yards and four touchdowns. He did throw one interception in the game against Texas.
Simply put, Burrow has been incredible this season and if he keeps this up, he is going to be a fast riser in the 2020 NFL Draft cycle. Burrow entered the season as an interesting prospect who showed good accuracy and controlled the offense well, but now he is one of the most exciting players in college football. If he can keep up this pace, Burrow will likely be a first-round selection next April.
In fact, he is already getting that kind of attention. In his recent 2020 NFL mock draft for CBS Sports, Chris Trapasso placed Burrow in the first round. The LSU quarterback landed with the Los Angeles Chargers with the 24th overall pick.
“Hey, Burrow in Round 1! Why not?” Trapasso wrote. “He was tremendous in a gigantic win over Texas in Austin. His performance definitely warrants him being put on the draft radar.”
In this mock draft, Burrow was the third quarterback off of the board, going after only Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and Oregon’s Justin Herbert. No matter what he does the rest of the season, it is going to be difficult for Burrow to overtake those top two. That being said, he is certainly putting himself in a great position to be the third quarterback in this 2020 NFL draft class.
If Burrow can continue to impress, NFL teams will take note. He has undoubtedly put himself in on the first-round radar and if this continues, a top-ten selection is not out of the question. Nothing is more important for NFL teams than finding a franchise quarterback and Burrow may be on his way to becoming one.
