2020 NFL Draft: First round mock draft as the NFL season begins
29. New Orleans Saints: C.J. Henderson, CB, Flordia
Another talented cornerback comes off of the board here as Florida’s C.J. Henderson lands with the New Orleans Saints. Henderson is a fantastic off-man defender whose closing speed and length allows him to give room to receivers and bait the quarterback into making a throw that he should not make. Henderson shows impressive ball skills and also does a great job of playing through traffic.
30. Los Angeles Rams: Raekwon Davis, DL, Alabama
Raekwon Davis is an extremely long and powerful defensive lineman who would fit in perfectly as a two-gap defensive end in the Los Angeles Rams’ 3-4 defense. He sheds blocks extremely well and has the athleticism and quickness to be a terror on the inside. He is a scheme versatile player who can have success as a two-gap player, but also make an impact as a penetrator when asked to do so.
The defensive line is not a huge need for the Rams, but Davis is a fantastic player who would be a great fit for them up front. He is a major value selection this late in the first round.
31. New England Patriots: Curtis Weaver, EDGE, Boise State
Curtis Weaver is not the most athletic or explosive edge defender in the 2020 NFL draft class, but he is an extremely powerful and disciplined player who can make a consistent impact at the next level. The Patriots tend to look for defensive ends who can win with power and consistently set the edge and Weaver certainly fits the bill here.
Weaver does get off of the ball quickly and has some upside as a pass rusher, but he is not as exciting as some of the other edge defenders mentioned earlier. However, he is a rock-solid player who fits as an ideal fit for the Patriots.
32. Kansas City Chiefs: Creed Humphrey, C, Oklahoma
Last, but not least, the Kansas City Chiefs stabilize the interior of their offensive line with the selection of Oklahoma center Creed Humphrey. If Humphrey declares for the 2020 NFL Draft, he has a chance to be the top interior offensive lineman in the class. I would not bet on him overtaking Biadasz for the top spot, but it is not impossible.
Humphrey is a mean and nasty center prospect who uses fantastic pad level and obvious strength to dominate defensive linemen in the run game. He is also a reliable pass protector who picks up stunts and blitzes with ease and consistently keeps his head on a swivel, looking for work.
Protecting Patrick Mahomes is the number one goal for the Kansas City Chiefs going forward and drafting Humphrey would undoubtedly help gives Mahomes a clean pocket for years to come.
