2020 NFL Draft: First round mock draft as the NFL season begins
14. Carolina Panthers: Isaiah Simmons, LB/S, Clemson
Is he a linebacker or is he a safety? Honestly, who cares? Isaiah Simmons is a fantastic football player who is going to excel is any role that he is asked to play at the next level.
Simmons is a do-it-all defender who has an incredible combination of size and explosive athleticism in the middle of the field. He is a slippery defender who sheds blocks with ease, is explosive when attacking the line of scrimmage and has a ton of natural potential in pass coverage.
Simmons is the perfect defender for the modern NFL and would undoubtedly thrive in the Carolina Panthers’ defense. Whether they see him as more of a linebacker or safety does not really matter. This guy is going to make plays no matter where you decided to put him.
15. San Francisco 49ers: Jeffrey Okudah, CB, Ohio State
The San Francisco 49ers have aggressively built their defensive front over the last few years, but have some work to do in the secondary. There are many interesting defensive back prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft and the 49ers find one of the most intriguing ones here.
Jeffrey Okudah is a tremendous natural athlete who is impressive in man-to-man coverage. He is best used as an off-man defender due to his incredible closing speed. He also has tremendous natural ball skills which help his ability to compete as a Cover 3 deep zone defender.
Okudah is an extremely smooth cornerback prospect who could quickly rise up draft boards this season. Right now, landing him in the middle of the first seems fair, but Okudah could easily be a top-ten player when it is all said and done.
